Episode 302: Bali vs. New York, GTA 6, and Full-Quota Sales

In this episode, Nathan and Tim catch up after both returning from opposite sides of the world. Nathan breaks down his trip to Bali, beginning with an absolutely brutal 30-hour journey to get there before getting into the much better parts: incredible food, rice terraces, monkeys, one of the nicest hotels he’s ever stayed in, and just how absurdly far your money can go in Bali. He also explains why the trip came with a surprising amount of background stress—from questionable tap water and mosquitoes to rabies, Bali belly, and the realization that he might not actually make the journey back anytime soon.

Tim then recaps a trip to rural New York for Emily’s sister’s wedding, including renting a car for the first time and discovering the joys of aimlessly driving around the middle of nowhere. The two also compare their massage experiences after Nathan and Sophia get their first real massages in Bali and Tim recounts how a birthday massage left Emily looking like a pepperoni pizza.

From there, the conversation turns to video games and movies. Tim explains why Ghost of Yotei has quickly become one of his favorite games, reflects on finally playing The Last of Us, and shares his extremely high expectations for GTA 6. The two also debate whether Marvel can possibly recover with Avengers: Doomsday, question why Shang-Chi disappeared for years, and check in on Nathan’s ongoing journey through the Harry Potter books.

Finally, Nathan asks Tim how his perspective on tech sales has changed now that he’s officially at full quota. Tim breaks down the relentless math behind hitting quota and why small-business SaaS sales feels like the “law school” portion of his career, while Nathan compares it to the strange incentives of being a lawyer. The two wrap things up by discussing how AI may be creating more legal work rather than eliminating it—and where they each see their careers heading over the next several years.
