Episode 301: The Odyssey, Bringing Back Snail Mail, and LA Sports Chaos

In this episode, Nathan and Tim kick things off with a belated birthday check-in before uncovering the much more pressing issue: Nathan apparently went roughly six months without checking his mailbox. The two debate whether physical snail mail is an outdated inconvenience or one of life’s underrated pleasures, how Nathan managed to forget which mailbox was even his, and whether Tim’s birthday card survived somewhere inside the mountain of junk mail.

Then, Nathan finally gives his review of The Odyssey after seeing it in 70mm IMAX. He and Tim compare the experience to their expectations, break down Christopher Nolan’s use of IMAX and practical effects, and discuss why the movie’s more grounded take on the classic story worked so well. Nathan makes the case that it might be Nolan’s best movie yet, while Tim explains why Interstellar still narrowly holds the top spot for him.

To wrap things up, the conversation turns into an extremely eventful LA sports update. Tim reacts to the Rams loading up for another Super Bowl run, celebrates what he sees as a new era for the Angels, and the two discuss the Clippers’ massive salary-cap scandal and the brutal consequences that could follow. They also get into the bizarre story of a man allegedly pretending to be an NFL player before closing things out ahead of Nathan’s trip to Bali and Tim’s trip to New York.
